Purdah during European referendum

Please be aware that the operations of the Local Action Groups in Cornwall are likely to be affected to some degree by the Purdah requirements relating to the EU Referendum.  This period currently lasts from the 27th of May to the 24th of June 2016.  Further updates will be provided once guidance is received from the Rural Payments Agency.  What is Purdah?

What is LEADER funding and who can apply?

LEADER funding is available to local businesses, communities, farmers, foresters and land owners. Eligible applicants can apply for funding through Local Action Groups (LAGs).  Your LAG will prioritise funding for projects that create jobs, help your business to grow, and benefit the rural economy.

LEADER is part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE).  It’s a French acronym which roughly translates as ‘Liaison among Actors in Rural Economic Development’.

A LAG is made up of people from the local community and the local public and private sector.  LAGs decide which projects they will fund in their area. This depends on their priorities but all projects must support one or more of the 6 LEADER priorities. These are to:

  • support micro and small businesses and farm diversification
  • boost rural tourism
  • increase farm productivity
  • increase forestry productivity
  • provide rural services
  • provide cultural and heritage activities

CAG Consultants are working on the development of Local Development Strategies for Community Led Local Development (CLLD) in Cornwall. CAG Consultants have been appointed by Cornwall Development Company on behalf of the four LEADER Local Action Groups who form the core of a working group for this work. CLLD is to be focused on the most deprived areas of Cornwall  and the Local Development Strategies are being prepared in the context of the potential for ERDF and ESF funding to support Community Led Local Development (CLLD) through the EU Growth Programme. The Local Development Strategies will then be the bid to Government for funding support.

CAG Consultants have arranged a number of events around the County to enable people to come and give their views and there are also online surveys for residents and businesses to feedback views. Full information about the events and the survey links are available through a website www.communityledcornwall.co.uk and a schedule of events is also attached. Any updates to the schedule will be published on the website. Please do participate and encourage individuals and organisations based in the potential areas to do so either through events or surveys or via social media
